In Edge of Me, Monika Killeen delivers a compelling narrative that illuminates the intricate balance between personal growth, family life and intimate relationships. Through the eyes of Myrtle – a mother, wife, therapist – the book traces a life lived in fragments of the Self. Sleepless nights, small domestic cruelties, fleeting consolations and the relentless work of becoming – readers are invited into a world that is both familiar and profoundly reflective.
Killeen’s storytelling captures the raw moments of human vulnerability – the tension in partnerships, and the uncelebrated triumphs of self-awareness. She watches her characters closely, registering the private mechanics of fear, duty and desire. Following Myrtle’s journey, the story explains, in a few precise sentences, how marriage, motherhood and the demands of a remembered past shape a woman’s interior world. And how, in the cracks left by loss and routine, something new can appear.
The book resonates because it is at once intimate and disciplinary. It is an invitation to look and to think. Killeen offers a nuanced exploration of how love and duty intersect, how grief and joy coexist, and how self-discovery is a lifelong pursuit. Edge of Me not only tells a story but also gives readers openings for reflection, encouraging by its own self-disclosure to consider the ways others relate to themselves and those they love.
Monika Killeen has crafted a narrative that matters. She offers a mirror for the complexities of modern life and the subtle power inherent in emotional growth. Readers who seek a story that pays attention – to emotion, the nuance, to the ethics of care – will find this book restless and morally engaged. Edge of Me is a journey into the heart of what it means to live fully, love deeply, and grow through experience.
Edge of Me is available now in bookstores and online, marking a significant addition to contemporary literature that celebrates the enduring strength of the human spirit: https://www.amazon.com/Edge-Me-Monika-Killeen/dp/1971610151
