February 22, 2022 – CHICAGO, IL – Urban Prep Schools Network is the country’s first all-boys public charter school and network. The Urban Prep Schools Network includes three public charter schools in the Bronzeville, Englewood and Near West Side on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. The motto “We Believe” is a constant reminder that Urban Prep students will not fall into the trap of negative stereotypes and low expectations. Instead, Urban Prep students believe in their potential and believe in their ability to exceed that potential.
For the 11th consecutive year, 100% of the seniors from Urban Prep have been accepted to four-year colleges and universities. Seniors from the Class of 2020 have been accepted to 154 colleges and universities and have amassed over $12 million in scholarships and grants to date. With a strong foundation focused on academics and preparing students for college, expanding career options to include entrepreneurship help Urban Prep’s students achieve postsecondary success. As a result, Urban Prep is partnering with Howard University and BridgePrep to promote entrepreneurship through a business plan competition.
Urban Prep will host a business plan competition where students will have the opportunity to compete for cash prizes and Howard University swag. The business plan competition will include freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior high school participants from Urban Prep. The purpose of the business plan competition is to help students explore entrepreneurship ideas as well as preparing their students for postsecondary education. Business plan competition finalists will have the unique opportunity to present their business plan to a panel of judges that includes a business Professor from Howard University. Dr. Rose-Robinson from Howard University will judge the business plans from the finalists and provide key feedback. Here students have a chance to showcase their talent in front of staff members from a prestigious university.
Urban Prep aims to drive student outcomes by utilizing BridgePrep’s innovative software and partnering with colleges. More specifically, Urban Prep has partnered with Howard University, which is a federally-chartered and historical top-tier black private college in Washington, D.C. Howard University provides a cutting edge and innovative environment with Google’s Tech Exchange and Martha and Bruce Karsh STEM Scholars Program. Howard University is home to impressive notable alumni including Vice President Kamala Harris, Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall, Pulitzer and Nobel Prize winner Toni Morrison, and United States Representative Elijah Cummings to name a few.
Principal Mason of Urban Prep is focused on not only preparing students for college success but also inspire entrepreneurship endeavors. Working with BridgePrep to empower students through cutting edge software allows students to build critical skills anytime, anywhere. According to Forbes Magazine over 80% of students are interested in entrepreneurship and students at Urban Prep students are looking to pursue their passion. Developing a comprehensive college and career readiness program complements Urban Prep’s current course offerings.
