Laud[Her]: Rallying Support For Black Women-Owned Businesses, Social Initiatives, And Self-Care

August 10 07:35 2020
Amidst renewed calls for the world to empathize with the Black community and take a stand for social justice, cultural marketing agency, SelfSells, has launched a campaign to rally support for Black women-owned businesses, social initiatives, and to encourage their self-care

“15 years ago, when I googled ‘Black girls surfing’, there were only two pictures on the internet. Most recently, I serendipitously connected with Sissi Johnson online who appeared in one of them. Her image inspired the launch of my global non-profit Black Girls Surf and the girls/women division of the Africa Surf International. I am now part of Sissi’s Laud[HER] x SelfSells initiative alongside other Black women in the US and around the world, amplifying each other’s businesses, charities, and promoting self-care during these unprecedented times and beyond,” Rhonda Rokki Harper, Founder, Black Girls Surf, said in a statement.

Hosted by IFundWomen, the leading New York-based ‘go-to marketplace for women-owned businesses and the people who want to fund them’, the Laud (Her) initiative is an opportunity for individuals and companies to demonstrate solidarity beyond hashtags and black squares.

The #Laudher2020 campaign features a group of accomplished American Black women and of the diaspora, collectively tagged ‘Amplifi[HERS]’. These include:

  • Maya Penn, Oprah’s Super Soul 100 (USA)
  • Bisila Bokoko, United Nations World Citizen Honoree (USA)
  • Jewel Jackson, Creative Director, Bloume Design House (USA)
  • Sara Ali, UK Mentor of the Year 2019 (UK)
  • Haweya Mohamed, Fast Company’s 100 Most Creative People in Business (France)
  • Kwena Baloyi, Marie Claire Image Maker Honoree (South Africa)
  • Carine Mbala, Eléngé, Huffpost Beauty Essentials (UK)

According to Bisila Bokoko, United Nations World Citizen Honoree, #Laudher2020 speaks to the power of sisterhood, allyship, and economic solidarity across borders.

The donations will give donors access to merch, stationery by illustrator Céline Mai, and award-winning expert business consulting from The Amplifi[HERS].

Amongst other causes in the Laud[HER] campaign, SelfSells is also raising money for ‘The Official Peace and Healing for Darnella Fund’, the GoFundme fundraiser for Darnella Frazier, the teenage Black girl who filmed the ultimate moments of George Floyd’s life.

The Laud[Her] campaign runs until August 31st. For more information, please visit the website and social media @laudherglobal. #Laudher2020
