OGLETHORPE, GA – The Dr. Annise Mabry Foundation has received a $7,500 community reinvestment grant from the Atlanta Pride Committee to support the Foundation’sThrive with Pride Program, a non-profit diploma program that supports homeless LGBTQ youth.

The program was designed specifically to help vulnerable youth complete their high school education, receive a diploma, and lay the groundwork for their future lives.

“It’s not just a diploma — it is literally a ticket to freedom for so many,” said Dr. Annise Mabry, former DeVry University Dean of Graduate Studies and Foundation creator. “Having the support from the Atlanta Pride Committee is a tremendous hand up to this program.”

Ensuring funding for the community reinvestment grant program is a priority for the Atlanta Pride Committee because this funding provides assistance to organizations that support a variety of important causes throughout the year.

Thrive with Pride operates under the Tiers Free Academy.  Dr. Mabry founded Tiers Free Academy in 2011 after her daughter experienced a psychotic break as a result of extreme bullying at the local middle school. Her daughter then attempted suicide more than 13 times during the next year.

“I had a choice to make,” Mabry said. “My child was hurting, and I was going to deploy every single resource that I had to save her. So, I took my training as a police officer, my knowledge as an online course developer and my experience as an academic administrator to build a program for my daughter so that she could heal emotionally and thrive academically.”

Thrive with Pride works in partnership with other local nonprofit organizations such as Lost N Found Youth, Chris 180, Thrive SS, 4Sarah, and Atlanta Redemption Ink.

“Having access to a program like Tiers Free Academy is a tremendous gift for our organization,” said Jessica Lamb, founder of Atlanta Redemption Ink.

Atlanta Redemption Ink is a survivor led nonprofit organization that provides counseling services, tattoo removals, and coverups for trafficking survivors, former self harmers, and former gang members.

Partnerships are an integral part Mabry’s drive to offer educational opportunity to more and more vulnerable populations.
