Black Mothers Call for Reform of Child Welfare System on Second Annual March on Mother’s Day

April 12 19:01 2023

Washington, DC – Black mothers from across the United States will gather in Washington, DC on Mother’s Day, May 14, 2023, for the second annual Black Mothers March on the White House. The march aims to raise awareness of issues affecting black families in the child welfare system and call for reform of the system.

Organized by a coalition of black-led organizations, the Black Mothers March seeks to highlight the challenges faced by black families in the child welfare system. The march aims to bring attention to the systemic issues within the system that can lead to unnecessary separation of families and trauma.

The Black Mothers March believes that the child welfare system can be improved to better support keeping families together when possible and reducing the number of children who enter the system. The coalition is calling on all individuals and organizations who wish to support black mothers and families, as well as the reform of the child welfare system, to show their support at this important event.

During the march, Black Mothers March organizers will share stories from impacted families and advocate for changes to the system. The coalition is inviting media to cover the event and connect with its organizers.
