Gripping and Well Narrated Tales That Take Back in Time With The Story

Far Flung Fragments” pitches the reader into a vivid and varied journey through wild landscapes, distant times and strange events – from a Scots trader in Calcutta in 1827, to an unfortunate meal in the jungles of Senegal, to gold smuggling to Iran, from an earthquake in Kathmandu, to sharing a bed with a desperate smoker and a domestic crisis in Paddington station. The accounts are studded with poems of a less hectic nature. Here, reading is an adventure indeed.

Far Flung Fragments explores various facets of life through a collection of short stories. Each story might have a different subject matter, but all share the undertone of life in its full entirety. While a few of the Fragments have autobiographical origins, most do not draw upon them specifically, but some retain elements of lived experience. The book also contains poetry pieces that offer short breaks in the middle of the story, building up suspense while offering an impressive merger of prose and poetry. From old timber-framed brick buildings of south east Asia to cracking plains of Sudan, from impressive imperial buildings to a cave high in the Himalayas, the book navigates the readers through a myriad of landscapes with epic descriptions and hooking tales.

Far Flung Fragments is Piers Blaikie’s one of the most valued collection of short stories throughout his twenty-five years of writing. Several pieces in this collection appeared in anthologies written by a group of authors, the Thursday Morning Writers and published by Gatehouse Press. Piers anthology draws much of its inspiration from his experiences across deserts, mountains, teeming cities, and wild forests.
