Development Corporation of Snyder Supports Two Community Initiatives Utilizing American Rescue Plan Funds

The Development Corporation of Snyder (DCOS) recently facilitated two informational meetings to drive support for two separate community initiatives that would use some of the anticipated $5.6M dollars the City of Snyder and Scurry County will receive from the federal American Rescue Plan funds.

The Development Corporation of Snyder (DCOS) recently facilitated two informational meetings to drive support for two separate community initiatives that would use some of the anticipated $5.6M dollars the City of Snyder and Scurry County will receive from the federal American Rescue Plan funds.

The first meeting was regarding bringing Retail Strategies to Snyder and is being co-championed by the Snyder Chamber of Commerce. Retail Strategies would focus on post-pandemic economic recovery in Texas, as well as Downtown Revitalization, and recruit new businesses based on specific data unique to Snyder. Their services include development of a Downtown Revitalization Plan, identification of needed business sectors, and small business support, i.e. marketing, social media and online sales.

“2020 was a challenging year for small businesses. The unknown, coupled with the shut down of our economy, left most small businesses with little to no help to navigate these unchartered waters,” said DCOS Executive Director, Doug Dowler. “The Retail Strategies program lends support for our local small businesses with education, training, and one on one support. Development and support of our small businesses creates economic prosperity and improved quality of life, which leads to Snyder becoming more competitive for location of new business and expansion of existing businesses.”

The second meeting focused on bringing a community-wide Broadband Fiber infrastructure network to Snyder and surrounding areas.

“The future depends on fast, reliable and secure internet access. While Snyder currently has limited access to Broadband Fiber infrastructure, it is at much lower speeds and not affordable,” Dowler said. “Most of the surrounding communities already have widespread Broadband access and we need it in order to be competitive.”

Snyder currently has an option of limited access to fiber broadband at a rate of 50/50 mbps for $590 per month. This initiative would give Snyder fiber broadband at a more accessible and affordable rate and to our entire small business community and residential.

The DCOS has committed to progressing these initiatives. However, without support from the community and its leaders, these projects cannot move forward. We encourage our local community to get involved by either contacting their local government leaders to show their support or reaching out to the DCOS at [email protected] with any questions or concerns.
